The best tip that I have ever received from anyone was to freeze my cakes! If you frost them while they are frozen they are so moist and everyone will ask what your secret is... very sneaky but soooo easy. :)

Alternative way to prep baking pans

When preparing pans for baking, I spread the pans with soft margarine/butter then dust with granulated sugar. The cakes come out perfectly and there is a slight crunchy caramelized glaze on each layer.
