This is a great alternative to regular cake frosting.
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg cream cheese, softened
- 6 tbsp. butter
- 1 tbsp. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 cups sifted powdered sugar
- Beat cream cheese and butter together until fluffy.
- Beat in milk and vanilla.
- Gradually beat in sugar until smooth and creamy.

It is very time consuming to sift confectioner's sugar and it flies all over the kitchen, making a real mess. The good news is, it isn't necessary to sift it when the icing is being made with an electric mixer - the sugar will blend in without lumps. The only time you have to sift is when you are stirring the sugar in my hand, as in a chocolate frosting that has a cooked base.
