These cupcakes are great for summer cookouts and parties! Children and parents love them and they're delicious.
- 1 box Duncan Hines French Vanilla Cake Mix
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 large eggs
- 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
- 2 cans Duncan Hines Vanilla Frosting
- Red, Blue, and Yellow Food coloring or icing tints
- 2-3 tubes black piping gel
- Mix the cake mix, buttermilk, eggs, and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Line 24 cupcake tins with cupcake liners. Fill the cups to 2/3 full and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cupcake comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool before frosting.
- Separate the first can of icing into three bowls. Tint one bowl red, one bowl yellow, and one bowl blue.
- Completely cover the tops of the cupcakes with the white, untinted frosting, smooth the frosting, and put them in the fridge until the icing is set.
- Trace a beach ball pattern into the set icing using a toothpick. There should be a small circle in the center and six sections of color (see picture).
- Frost each section on the cupcake. There should be red, blue, and yellow section on each cupcake with white in between the colors. Smooth the frosting with a toothpick.
- Use the piping gel to trace the lines on the cupcakes.
- Let stand until frosting hardens.
