Double Caramel Toffee Brownies

Mary Shivers Recipe shared by:

The Duncan Hines Caramel Flavor Frosting Creations makes these already delicious brownies absolutely spectacular! The caramel frosting creates the perfect frame for the toffee, then it is swirled into the brownie batter before baking and more is drizzled on top when the brownies are done. Definitely a top-shelf dessert!

  • Total Time:
  • Servings: 24
  • Rating:

  • 1 packet of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Caramel Flavor Mix and 1 can of Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter
  • Filling:
  • 6 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate toffee bits
  • Brownies:
  • 1 (19 oz.) box Duncan Hines Premium Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup cold strong coffee
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • Garnish:
  • 24 pecan halves

Baking Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray a 13x9x2-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. Remove 1/3 of frosting to a heavy resealable quart size plastic bag. Seal and set aside.
  4. Place remaining frosting in a large mixing bowl. Add cream cheese and beat on medium speed until smooth. Beat in eggs and flour until well mixed. Stir in toffee bits.
  5. In a separate large bowl, beat brownie mix, eggs, coffee (instead of water), and oil together as directed on box.
  6. Pour half of brownie batter in prepared dish. Drizzle with half of frosting mixture. Drizzle with remaining brownie batter then remaining frosting mixture.
  7. Use a knife to swirl frosting mixture and brownie batter.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes just until center is set.
  9. Cool completely.
  10. Cut into 24 squares and arrange on platter.
  11. Heat bag of frosting for 8-10 seconds in microwave just until warm. Use a toothpick to poke two small holes in a bottom corner of bag and drizzle frosting over squares as desired.
  12. Place a pecan half on each.
  13. Cool completely to allow frosting to harden.

I love Duncan Hines cakes, however to make white cakes more moist, I add 5 eggs whites instead of 3, and 1/3 cup of oil. I have had many compliments of how great tasting the cake was.

I've been a fan of this product and have successfully baked many batches. The one I baked tonight is almost inedible. I would like to be able to contact Duncan Hines with my concern, but their website doesn't permit comments or criticism, only praise. Perhaps one of their unpaid corporate interns will notice this post and alert someone that will have the integrity to respond. Until then, I'm done with Duncan.
