Caramel Brownies

Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • 1/2 cup; shortening, butter or margarine
  • 2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1tsp. almond extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • Topping: 6 oz. chocolate chips and 2 tbsp. shortening
  1. Cream margarine and sugar till smooth.
  2. Add eggs and extracts.
  3. Add flour and baking powder, then fold in walnuts.
  4. Bake in 9"x13" greased pan for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  5. When cool, melt 6 oz. chocolate chips and 2 tbsp. shortening together and frost brownies. When chocolate hardens, cut into squares.

These go by the name of Blondies in my house - we love them! I usually add the chips (usually butterscotch or white chocolate) to the batter, but this is a great way to make these, too.
