The other problem with them possibly being dry might be due to where you live and weather conditions. If you live in a high elevated area like Colorado you need to compensate for water and oil. In the winter the lack of humidity may harden baked goods as well.

I was reading the reviews below last night and was trying to figure out why some people said their dough came out dry, I searched the internet for more chocolate biscotti recipes using cake mix and I found that recipes that called for normal chocolate cake mix also called for 1/4c of chocolate syrup. I then realized that this Decadent Cake mix included a pouch of its own chocolate sauce/fudge. Ive come to believe that the people who claim their dough was dry didn't include the pouch o' chocolate in their recipe...just a thought. I'm glad I did the research before making this recipe because I just purchased regular devils food cake mix, I would have made the same mistake. Now I will wait to make this until I can get to the store to buy the exact ingredients; decadent cake mix..

I thought they were good! I added the nuts, forgot the water and they still turned out nice and crispy, not crumbly at all. Just make sure you mix it long enough like 1lynness mentions.

I found these to be just dry and crumbly. The taste was not very good either. I really need a good recipe for chocolate biscotti. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Biscotti are usually very dry. Adding dried cherries may bring in some moisture and flavor.
BTW, I have not tried these yet.

See the Biscotti Italian recipe just submitted, to make these into chocolate biscotti, just add Cocoa ... 1/4 should do it... these are quite sweet already with the sugar and the almonds, so should not require any additional sugar.

Dry yes, but not crumbly. Until a dough is formed is not enough - it's a stiff dough that may make your mixer smoke that sticks together and is very thick and heavy - like a heavy cream puff dough. I would not have known this if my friend had not told me. When the dough formed, it was thick, but soft and would not hold it's shape - you have to go past that point until it is a ball on it's own, and you really can shape it. You can add chocolate chips - the minis or chopped candy bar - and the additional cocoa is a good idea too. I like nuts too, and the contrast of color they add to chocolate. For this recipe, 1/4 cup of chocolate chips or nuts is enough.

The Italian Biscotti are real simple to make, hardly any ingredients, so why use a mix if you don't need it?
