Someone PLEASE reply! Do you have to premix the cake mix first? Like add the 1 1/3 cup water and 1/3 oil as well as the 3 eggs and then add the 1/2 cup butter and egg?

Don't make the cake mix into batter, just follow recipe above- stir together dry cake mix, butter and egg. It will make a dense batter- good luck!

These are great! I made them with my son and it was great. Very easy to do with him. One bowl for me and one for him. Lots of fun and just as fun to eat.

Duncan Hines just needs to plain get their stuff together. I saw the photo on the back of the cake box with the title "Luscious Lemon Cake". Hm. Those look like BARS. They have a QR code for more info. Um, NO. So I come to the website. Luscious Lemon cake is a three layer cake with instructions for ONE LAYER. A search of Lemon found this recipe. I'll stick with the Pilsbury website. They seem to know how to post recipes.

I saw the same thing, but my goodness are you kidding to post such a comment over such a matter as this. Have fun with Pilsbury.

I just made these this morning and my family has already eaten them! I melted the butter and ended up having to add another 1/2 stick in order for it to mix evenly. Afterwards I let them cool for 10 minutes then stuck them in the refrigerator. They set really well and looked amazing. A big hit!!

These are sooo good! I made them for the first time just like the recipe said and melted the butter. I baked for 23 min and they came out perfect! I cut them w a plastic knife so that it wouldn't stick and garnished each one with a gummy lemon slice, I cut each gummy in twos or threes to make them thinner. Very good recipe!

I love sweet and lemon but these were a waste of fresh lemon juice.
I melted the butter as suggested by some below, but it's disappointing. The top is sticky and the bottom thick and chewy.

Should I keep this in the refrigerator?
Comment by: Juna23 (1 discussion) on Apr 23, 2012 at 08:59 PM
I'd say yes if you need to store them for more than 1 day.

You have to be a sugar baby to love this one. When I was a kid I used to put sweetened condensed milk in Coca-Cola and drink it like a milkshake. this desert reminds me of those days, way back when. Hello Proust!

This recipe was not written well, sorry to say, as I can't tell you how many boxes of Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme I have bought over the years. It is the family favorite and I also wish there were more recipes on the box.

Duncan Hines makes a lemon bar dessert why not just buy that box instead of trying to make the cake into a lemon bar thats probably why the recipe is not written well

I'm sure the results are great but the instructions leave a lot to be desired. Melt butter? Pour hot butter into mix or cool it first? Stir (by hand or machine?) Put it into a bowl? Instructions look like they were done by someone who never baked.
Blend (where in a bowl?) . This recipe was not written

I didn't melt the butter, I cut the butter into pieces and used my mixer and it came out perfect. I also mad it with soft butter. I never had to melt it. But I do agree with you on putting more recipes on the box. Also I added lemon zest in the cake mixture and topping and after it cooled completely I dusted the bars with powered sugar.

Certainly easy enough to make but why wouldn't Duncan Hines just put the darn recipe on the cake mix box?? Okay, so I go on this Web site to get it. It's listed under "SUNSHINE" Lemon Bars, so not all that easy to find if one is looking under "L" for lemon. So, I find them on page 4 of the cookeies and bars and there's the recipe.
MELT THE BUTTER. How hard would it be to add those 3 little words to the recipe?
These are very delicious but, c'mon Duncan Hines, just because we're all supposed to be so advanced with technology doesn't mean your company has to force us to use the Web site (so you can slam us with advertising) and, then, when we do, you can't even tell us to MELT THE BUTTER?

Myrna, Your comments make so much sense. Hopefully Duncan Hines is paying attention to all the messages + reacts to your observations.

Hi, These are fantastic and are so pretty on a platter with powdered sugar and candied lemon slices. I have found that you must melt the butter for the crumb crust. If it is too crumbly after adding the egg, add water in teaspoon increments until it is the consistency of raw sticky cookie dough. I mix this up with a latex gloved hand that I have spayed with a small amount of non stick cooking spray on the hands of the gloves. Press in the pan evenly and make sure you sprayed the pan with a non-stick cooking spray. DO NOT OVER BAKE THESE! I cook for only 23 min. the top is supposed to be shiny. The edges do rise a little and I will have an air bubble or 2 but if you let them cool and garnish with powdered sugar and cherries or jelly beans it will cover all that. Delicious! Just like the local bakeries only cheaper!

If it was too crumbly mash it down firmly before adding the topping. This is a GREAT dessert!!!

the recipe was very easy and make sure you beat the egg and melt the butter it also would not hurt to dust your hands with flour because the dough becomes sticky
