I want to use a SPICE cake mix instead of this carmel cake mix using RAISINS instead of chocolate chips to make a spanish bar cookie recipe. Do you think it would turn out? These cookies were great years ago in SW Pa.

I just found this cake mix today at my locally owned Mickey's T-Mart. Couldn't find it at Wal-Mart or Kroger. For this recipe, I think I'd use 1 cup of the Nestle Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate chips, rather than just chocolate chips. I mean come on....Caramel, Chocolate & Peanut Butter? Yum!!! :)

I never saw the caramel cake mix in the usual places, but we have a small chain of Mexican food stores here and they carry every cake mix thats made I think--they even have a butter pecan, strawberry--any kind you want, but I would try some of the small stores

I'm in mid-Michigan and found mine in a local Polly's store. If your store carries Duncan Hine cake mixes, you might ask if they would bring in this flavor. I have done this on another product and they did bring it in. Worth a try.

I made this to take over to my mom and dads and they just loved it. They were hesitant at first because they were unsure of a carmel cake mix .But they were pleasantly surprised with the taste.

My mother made these first for our family in the Fall. She added chocolate icing on the bars and they were scrumptious! We can find the carmel cake mix only at one store in her small home town and cannot find it in our larger city.

It has been a year since you have been on this recipe but I will see if you see this and can help me out. Do you think I can use a cake spice mix and add raisins to make a spanish bar cookie recipe and add a carmel drizzle on them? This bar recipe was predominate in SW Pa. for years and died off. I have a recipe for spanish bar cookies but want to use my spice cake mix and get the same result. I was told when I called DH to use 1/3 cup of applesauce instead of the margarine but it would be drier. Any suggestions or know someone who would help me? I asked DH if they had a test kitchen to try it out for me but I wasn't assured that they would ever get my request.

These are delicious! Per previous reviewer I added two additional TBSP of butter and baked exactly 25 minutes. Very moist and very sweet - cut into small bars.
