I agree with Alek. I'm baking this recipe at this moment. 18 minutes in and these "loaves" have spread to the whole width of the cookie sheet. Bad directions and a waste of the money that I spent for this mix. I had planned to take these to a picnic tomorrow. Back to the drawing board.

I made these yesterday. I split it into 2 logs and they did flatten and spread while baking, but that's normal. They did not spread as much as you've described--did you put the extra flour in? The dough should be fairly stiff.

I followed the instructions. The dough spread as it cooked and I had a long flat cookie? I live in MT. am wondering if I need to add more flour?

I've made biscotti before, and was slightly disappointed by the texture. Do these turn out cruncy?

Add craisins and walnuts. Very pretty and just the right amount of texture.

Wow!! Made this twice in one week. So good! I agree with Jeanuine, hard to stop at one or two. Love the decadent cake mix collection. I didn't glaze mine, I didn't think it was needed. Planning to make one more batch to give to friends/neighbors.

Fabulous!!! Made these about a hour ago...my husband went nuts over them. He wants me to bake more to take to his office. They are super easy and taste great. I'm going to give the chocolate ones a try next time.

I was just about to ask the same question; the recipe is a bit ambiguous. I am assuming I just add the caramel to the all the other ingredients

I made the Apple Carmel Biscotti and took it to work. They loved it. Some really didn't know what it was. It is so simple to make. I am going to make it for our Thanksgiving Breakfast, I want to try it with Chocolate too

I love the Apple Carmel Biscotti & I am sure the people at my Block Party tomorrow will love them too. I used the Chocolate Amazing Glazes on all the Biscottis. I plan to make them again soon. My daughter already asked me for the recipe.

Another thing to do for good Biscotti is to make an egg wash, 1 egg + a little water, and paint it across the loaves before baking. Wipe away any that falls onto your cookie sheet so it wont burn. This helps keep the slice together when you cut them. I like to dip half the finished biscotti in melted chocolate and sometimes add "jimmies" in seasonal colors.

DO NOT MAKE THIS... unless you have good self control. It was amazing. I did need to use my speed bake for the last few minutes to get a true biscotti texture. Def 5 Starts though!

I am making mine today; can't wait. Love the smell of biscotti baking in the oven plus having one fresh out of the oven with a cup of tea

Thank you gypsy. That's a good catch about putting the sliced biscotti on their side for the second baking. I haven't made biscotti in a long time and I might have forgotten that.

CJ -- it'll have to be walnuts for me -- I have an allergy to almonds.

I have dozens of recipes for all kinds of biscotti I make. I have used chopped walnuts, almonds, mcadamias and pistachios and mini chocolate chips in all my recipes and they work out great. When chopping nuts chop them a little smaller than usual. The recipe doesn't tell you this but when you slice the biscotti and put them back on the cookie sheet, you lay them on their sides. Since the top and bottom have already been crisped by the first baking, this crisps up the other two sides so they have the texture you want for biscotti. By the way, biscotti are one of the best cookies to ship as they don'[t crumble very easily. Some of these with packets of hot chocolate mix would be a great treat for all our soldiers for the holidays or anytime! Make them wider then 3" and when baked and sliced they will fit nicely into an empty coffee can for shipping. I haven't baked this recipe yet.

The military websites I have seen say that if you are not personally known to a particular soldier and are sending a care box, DO NOT send home-made food items as they will throw them away.

Thanks for reminding me to put the slices on the side; I would have forgotten to do so. It's almost a standard thing to do with every biscotti recipe

Walnuts might be overpowering - but a good thought. How about sliced almonds?

Have you tried making the biscotti with any other Duncan Hines cake mixes? I might give it a try.

I have a very similar recipe to mix & match any flavor cake mix & nuts. My recipe contains no water. Chocolate mix & toasted walnuts is a great combo! (about 1/2 cup chopped nuts)
Tip: use serrated knife to cut after first baking & cut at an angle.
Enjoy!
