Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • Cake Mix (Choose your favorite)
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Water
  • Vanilla Icing (avoid whipped)
  • Red Food coloring (optional color choices)
  • Baking non-stick spray (with flour is best)
  • Duncan Hines Glaze (Chocolate)
  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Butter
  • Marshmallows
  • Sugar Cone
  1. Cake:

  2. Spray two 6" round cake pans with nonstick spray.
  3. Bake 2 cakes according to the instructions of your cake mix.
  4. Allow the cakes to cool in their pans 10 mins.
  5. Flip upside down to remove. (With good non-stick spray they should come out easily)
  6. Once cakes have cooled. Use a bread knife to cut off each dome to level.
  7. Icing:

  8. Scoop your favorite icing (pre-made is just as easy) into a medium mixing bowl.
  9. Add 2-3 drops of red food coloring (to make pink icing) and mix well.
  10. Place first cake layer on base, cut side down.
  11. Apply icing to the top of this layer and then place the next cake cut side down.
  12. Generously apply icing around the sides and top of the cake.
  13. Smooth with knife or spatula, place in fridge to cool and set.
  14. "Melting" Ice Cream Cone:

  15. Make Rice Krispie treat mixture as instructed per recipe on cereal box.
  16. Take a scoop of the gooey cereal mixture and with your hand form a ball with a ridge around the edge. (Imagine what a scoop of ice cream would look like once it starts to melt on a plate.)
  17. Place on a greased plate. (Important for easy removal)
  18. Let set. You can quicken this process by placing temporarily in the fridge or freezer.
  19. Glaze:

  20. While your Rice Krispie ice cream "scoop" is setting, remove cake from fridge.
  21. According to the instructions, warm your bottle of glaze. Shake well.
  22. The glaze is appropriate to use when the consistency is that of smooth syrup.
  23. Drizzle the glaze along the top of the cake, letting it run off the sides. I find starting at the edge to get each drip was more succesful, then I filled the middle to cover the top of the cake.
  24. Allow the cake to sit at room temperature to set.
  25. Remove your Rice Krispie ice cream "scoop" from the fridge.
  26. Steadily drizzle the glaze ontop of this "scoop" allowing some to drizzle onto the plate.
  27. Once covered it should resemble a scoop of melting ice cream.
  28. Quickly add a sugar cone to the "scoop".
  29. Add sprinkles.
  30. Once set, remove with spatula and place ontop of cake

Thanks! I did a practice version first, so I learned my mistakes. We had hired a professional photographer for the party, so hopefully soon I will have a better close up of the cake to share!
