This tree stump is multi-functional. I can make it with any frosting flavor like the bubble gum flavor for a fairy tree stump or the cherry vanilla for a baby shower. There are so many uses! The picture submitted is an Easter tree stump.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Mint Chocolate Flavor Mix and 1 can of Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter
  • 1 packet of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Chocolate Marshmallow Flavor Mix and 1 can of Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter
  • 1 box Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • 1 1/3 Cups Water
  • 1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 3 Large Eggs

Baking Instructions

  1. Pour pack of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Mint Chocolate Flavor Mix into can of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter. Stir until evenly blended.
  2. Pour pack of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Chocolate Marshmallow Flavor Mix into can of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter. Stir until evenly blended.
  3. Bake cake according to directions on box in a round pan.
  4. spreak the Mint Chocolate Frosting between each layer of cake. Use the Chocolate Marshmallow Frosting to Frost the outside of the cake. Frost in sweeping motions to make it look like bark. This time you don't want a smooth finish of frosting. You want to make it look like a tree.
  5. Use decorations like gum paste flowers to decorate the tree to your liking.

Curious about the mix

Just curious I, and my large family, have been using Duncan Hines mixes for many, many years. It seems to all of us that there is not enough cake mix now, or the formula has been changed or something. I bake about 100 cakes a year. The cakes do not rise like they used to and are not as thick. They look okay until you take them out of the oven and then they seem to shrink and fall. We slice the layers into to make four. cake is now kind of flat. They used to be tall!!! Help!!
