Cotton Candy - Birthday Cake

Recipe Description
This is a white cake mix that is flavored with cotton candy flavoring and decorated according to the child's birthday motif. Great as cupcakes too.

Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • I duncan hines white cake mix - follow ingreditents at the back of the box
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 1/3 C. water
  • 1 -2 containers of Duncan hines white vanilla frosting
  • 1 tsp. of cotton candy flavoring - can be bought in candy making supply stores
  • food coloring of choice - pastel shades
  1. Mix the cake mix according to the insturctions at the back of the box.
  2. Add 1 1/2 tsp. cotton candy flavoring
  3. Pour the cake mix into a round 8 or 10 inch Aluminum pan that has been lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake in 350 degree pre-heated oven for 30-35 minutes or until its done.
  5. Allow cake to cool before icing - I usually cover the cake and freeze it for a few hours or even overnight.
  6. Assmble the cake:

  7. Place the cake in the cake plate of choice
  8. Prepare the icing by removing the icing from the container into a bowl
  9. Add 1-2 tsp. of cotton candy flavoring
  10. Add a few drops of food coloring of choice
  11. Blend it all by using a rubber spatula
  12. Spread it evenly all over the cake
  13. Decorate with pastel colored sprinkles / motif decors

I would like to make this cake but I've been told tht using a pound cake is better if you are going to stack your cakes. Is it ok to substitute the vanilla cake for pound cake? heeeeeelp :/
