Chocolaty Cherry Cake

Delicious chocolate cake

Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • 1 box Duncan Hines Devil Food Cake Mix
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 can (16 oz.) cherry pie filling
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 6 oz. semisweet chocolate bits
  1. Mix first four ingredients well.
  2. Bake in 9'x13' greased and floured pan at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
  3. Bring to a boil the next three ingredients
  4. Stir occasionally.
  5. Let boil 1 minute.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Stir in 6 ounces semisweet bits.
  8. Stir until melted
  9. Pour over cake.

Loved this cake - very moist and not too sweet although I opted to add a shiny chocolate glaze vs. the recommended in the recipe. I also made mine in a bundt pan - took about 35 minutes to bake at the recommended temperature.
