I had this cake for the first time in the 1970s when my aunt in Little Rock made it. I have been making it ever since--it is a family favorite.

I have made these recipe many times in the past but this time I decided to make it my own by adding 1/2 c diced granny smith aple to the streusel filling. And created my own glaze with confectioners sugar, milk, light corn syrup, and 1 tsp of natural maple flavoring. YUM!

Did you bake 375 degrees for 28-30 minutes? Did you put all streusel on top?

I use a tablespoon of lemon flavoring in my cake mix in the place of the streusel.I use a few tablespoons of powder sugar and evaporated milk and a teaspoon of lemon flavoring for my glaze. I mix them together and put it on the cake while its hot in a plastic cake holder it helps the icing sweat into the cake.

I totally agree with Jotter--I also logged on just to ask for the recipe on the box. By the time I realized it was no longer there, I didn't have any more so I couldn't save one. I tried other (fake) recipes, but nothing compares to this one. Love it and love the Duncan Hines cake better than any other brand. Please put the recipe back where it belongs!!!!!

I just finished baking my sock it to me cake. i found that once i warmed the icing in the microwave, i used a tablespoon to dip and allowed the icing to slowly drizzle on the cake and moved the spoon to make a swirled pattern. i hope this advice helps.

Greetings Shaloea! I'm one of those guys who makes more mistakes than successes but I do like cooking as it's calming. My technique is that I take a small zip bag, place my icing inside, microwave it for between five and ten seconds, then with a knife or scissors clip the absolutely smallest piece off of the bottom corner of the bag. I then knead the bag, forcing the icing to move towards the corner and drizzle it out that way. I've found that it's nice to use a couple of bags such as when I want to add food colouring or different flavours such as almond flavour, or cream cheese. I even once added a few drops of rose water to the icing which gave it a lovely flavour as well as a nice essence. Best of luck!

Shaloea Try using a fork that you have prepared your frosting or icing in. Stir your fork in your bowl and then drizzle over the cake....always works for me. Good Luck.

My boys love this coffee cake so it doesn't last long! I make it with a few little changes...for the cake I use 1/3 c soft butter (vs1/3 c oil) & add 1/2 tsp good vanilla. For the assembly I create a 2nd ribbon of streusel...I put 1/3 batter in pan, cover with 1/2 the streusel, put next 1/3 batter on top, cover with other 1/2 of streusel, then finally put last 1/3 batter on top of that. I also bake the cake at 340 so the outside doesn't brown so fast (I may just need to buy a better quality bundt pan!). In the end, the sliced cake looks really pretty with the additional line of streusel and the outside is softer from not cooking as fast.

I love this recipe and have made it for years. I love the recipe as it is and I usually eat it without icing. I was annoyed also that the Neeleys would claim it as their own. @KittiMix I would agree with you except that they have the exact Duncin Hines recipe without any changes and present it as their own creation - ant that is just wrong.

I LOVE making this cake for special occassions. I add my own twist to it though: I skip adding the sugar to the cake mixture, I add dark chocolate chips and heath bar toffee chips to the streusel filling, and I just mix confectioner's sugar with milk to make the glaze (I don't put too much glaze on because it can get a little too sweet for me). Chocolate makes everything better!

She bakes this cake at least once a month and was very disappointed when the recipe no longer appeared on the box. The first time I tasted a Sock It To Me cake it was used to make a coconut layer cake. The streusel filling had been left out and it was delicious! I use it for all kinds of layer cakes. I make homemade icings - chocolate, buttercream coconut, or caramel - and everyone thinks i've made the whole cake from scratch! It is a family, extended family, job and church favorite.

I started making Sock It To Me Cake when my children were babies. The oldest one is 40 now. It is a winner every time. So easy, great presentation and delicious. It can be used as a Coffey Cake, or Dessert. It sells really well at Bake sales too. It makes a lovely Bundt cake, but can be made in an Angelfood pan too. When Glazed it is attractive. It's one of our family favorites.
I have several other great cakes that start with the Duncan Hines Golden Butter cake mix. Do not substitute, it will not turn out the same. The Golden Butter Cake Mix, is really my favorite cake mix that Duncan Hines makes. It is the base for 3 of our families favorite cakes.

I love this cake. I made 6 sock-it-to-me bundt cakes and gave my neighbors as Christmas presents. They enjoyed them so much. I did not use the frosting as a glaze, I used 1 cup of confectioner's sugar, 1 teaspoon can milk, and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice.
After mixing the glaze, pour into a glass or plastic measuring cup that has a spout on it. This will give you the flexibility to drizzle the icing and create beautiful designs on your cake.

This is the best and only boxed cake mix recipe I’ve ever used. So moist and delicious. But, I have always added just a little rum or brandy extract to enhance the flavor of the pecans. I find the cake sweet enough, not to add the icing…

I have been making this cake for 30 years, and it is always a hit! I have given this recipe out countless times. I find it easier (and better) to mix the chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) into the cake batter (made without removing 2 tablespoons) and add half to the pan before sprinkling the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top and then adding the rest. That makes an attractive swirl in the middle.

This is a delightful cake for any occasion. I found the recipe on an older cake mix box and it said to make your own glaze.. I liked that much better. To make your own glaze combine 1cup of powdered sugar and 1-2 Tlb. of milk. Drizzle or spread over cake when cool. I served it with mild coffee flavored Ice cream. My family just raved over the cake. Thanks Duncan Hines for making my holiday special!
