Not a big icing fan, so I just dusted it with icing sugar. This cake is da bomb, and is a nice change fron banana loaf for those of us who don't manage to eat all the bananas we're supposed to. Totally gift-able.★★★★★

I just made this recipe using the "dark chocolate fudge" premium cake mix. I made cupcakes and frosting isn't necessary. The bananas and walnuts, along with the added sugar (I only added 1/4 cup) makes this recipe sweet and delicious.

This is a low calorie dessert without frosting.

I did this cake for thanksgiving and my family loved it :) i did the icing with coolwhip & creamcheese and it was great. But it was a little dry to me. Does any one know what causes the cake to be dry? I always do boxed cakes and they are always moist, its the first time i did one like this with extra ingredients. What did I do wrong?

Hello, can you use the classic yellow moist deluxe cake mix in place of moist deluxe golden butter cake mix for butter pecan banana cake.

If you substitute the pecans for walnuts do u have to cook the walnuts in a skillet with butter the same as you would the pecans.

I probably would - we don't care for walnuts so much at our house - we all prefer pecans - so I usually always substitute pecans for walnuts :)

I would start with a tsp of rum, then taste the batter a little. add more if needed. What I am doing right now, is following this recipe, but instead of pecans, I am folding in blueberries.... then drizzle with the vanilla glaze.... omg, so yummy smelling right now.

making it again, this time with dark chocolate fudge cake mix. This recipe is almost fail-proof. I love how moist and flavorful it is. I leave out the sugar too and have used applesauce for the oil too.

This one of the best cakes. I use it when I need a quick and impressive cake. I make it in layers and frost with homemade cream cheese icing!

This cake was awesome everyone at home loved it. I did two boxes of cake so used twice the amount on all ingredients and instead of using pecans I used almonds since that is what I had on hand. I also used cream cheese frosting and it came out great. I baked it in a square pan and had no problem.

The tips provided were most helpful. I did make a few changes with the cake. I omitted the sugar and used applesauce instead of oil. I baked it in a 9 X 13 pan for about 42 minutes. For the frosting I used an 8 ounce cream cheese, about 3/4 box of confectioner sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 3/4 of a stick of butter, and chopped nuts. YUMMY!

This was one rich, incredible cake. The next time I will leave out the sugar. The frosting makes it sweet enough. I also added a little mashed banana to the frosting and whipped it. I used their whipped vanilla frosting..

Delicious, but a little sweet for my taste. Next time I will reduce the sugar in the cake to 1/3 cup and will use a thin glaze versus the frosting and will top the cake with a few finely chopped nuts.

You might also try omitting the sugar. I do not remember what Duncan Hines recipe I made that also called for 1/2 cup of sugar but since I figured that the cake was already sweet enough without the extra sugar I omitted the sugar.

This recipe is great with white cake or yellow cake. I also use the extra mashed bananas on top of the batter. When mixing, I add butter pecan extract.
Fabulous with chocolate icing.

This cake was phenomenal. I made it with a the butter pecan super moist cake mix instead and omitted the extra pecans. It was very moist, and great flavor and the smell of the house while baking was wonderful. I also just used a powdered sugar glaze over the top, it really doesn't need that much frosting, the cake is excellant on it's own. Definately a recipe to keep close at hand for all occasions.

This cake turned out amazing! I used a little more than 1 cup of mashed bananas, and it had a great taste! The cake was very moist. The only thing I might change the next time I make it is the amount of pecans used in the frosting. It was a bit too much, with the pecans already in the cake - maybe use only 1/2 cup. Great recipe though!

I've made this recipe several times and each time I make it a little different. I use whatever nuts I have on hand, almonds, pecans, walnuts. I sometime add rum extract or you can use real rum. Each way is equally delicious!

Easy to make, with great results!
Just be careful to keep an eye on the icing, otherwise it gets too thin and makes the cake look dry.

Want to try for Christmas, but will use black walnuts. NE Georgia too cold for pecans, but some folks make a living cracking those osogood black walnuts !We had early snow flurries Sat 12/5/09 and we were 23 this am and never got above 43. Happy and Joyous Christmas to all.
