Macaroon Brownies

Chocolate brownies made with chopped almonds and coconut.

Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • 1 (21-ounce) package Duncan Hines Family-Style Chewy Fudge brownie mix
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup finely chopped almonds
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease bottom only of 13x9-inch pan.
  3. Prepare brownies as directed on package for cake-like brownies.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, or until set.
  5. Place egg whites in medium mixing bowl.
  6. Beat at high speed with electric mixer until foamy and double in volume.
  7. Beat in sugar gradually, beating until meringue forms peaks.
  8. Add almond extract; fold in almonds and coconut.
  9. Spread over warm brownies.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes, until meringue is set and lightly browned.
  11. Cool completely in pan; cut into bars.
  12. Spread the meringue to the edges of pan to prevent meringue from shrinking.
