Storing Cheesecake

You can keep cheesecake for up to three days if covered and refrigerated.

Frosting Tips

Frosting Cakes Smooth & Shiny
After frosting your cake, dip a palette knife or small spatula into hot water and wipe. Then slide the heated knife over the cake, it'll melt the icing just enough to make the surface smooth and shiny.

Frosting––Before & After

Please allow your cake to cool completely for about four hours before frosting. After you frost, let your frosted cake stand for at least one hour before you slice it.

To Evenly Spread Frosting

Using a flexible spatula, spread your frosting with light back and forth strokes. Try to avoid lifting your spatula so you don't pull the crust away from your cake.

To Thin Frosting

If the frosting becomes too thick to spread easily, stir in a few drops of water.

No-Mess Frosting

To keep your cake neat while you apply frosting, place four pieces of waxed paper under the edges of the bottom layer. After you frost, carefully slide the waxed paper out and away.

Lightning-quick Glaze

For a quick glaze, combine [1 cup:250 mL] icing sugar with [1 to 2 tablespoons:15-30 mL] water. Stir until smooth. Spoon over cake.

Never Frost a Warm Cake

Before frosting any cake, you should let it cool completely for at least four hours. Otherwise, your frosting may turn runny. The only exception is if the recipe explicitly directs you to do so.

Frosting Glaze

You can create a quick glaze by placing 1/2 cup of Duncan Hines® Creamy Homestyle Vanilla Frosting™ in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH (100% power) for 10 seconds; add 5 to 10 seconds if necessary. Stir mixture until smooth and thin.

The Perfect Glaze

Sift icing sugar before preparing glaze.

To Thicken A Glaze

If glaze becomes too thin, add more confectioner's sugar. If glaze is too thick, add more orange juice.

Creamy Cream Cheese Glaze

For glaze, beat 1 container Duncan Hines® Creamy Cream Cheese frosting in microwave at HIGH (100% power) for 30 seconds. Do not overheat. Stir until smooth. Spread over cooled cake.

Frosting Cookies & Brownies

You can frost cookies or brownies with your favorite flavor of Duncan Hines® ready-to-serve frosting for a special treat.

Frosting Drizzle

Blend together one tub of your favorite Duncan Hines® frosting flavor with 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Spoon over tube or Bundt® cakes.

Mousse Frosting

For an extra-special yet hassle-free finish to your favorite cake recipe, try gently folding 1 can of Duncan Hines® Creamy Home-Style Frosting with 1 container of non-dairy whipped topping, thawed. Then frost your cake as desired and refrigerate until ready.
