I recently ate a pineapple upside down cake that applesauce was added to the mix. How much applesauce do you use and is there any different directions to the cake mix recipe on the box?

I will check around this week-end and see if I can find that recipe. Usually when you modify recipes you would substitute ingredients, otherwise if you just add applesauce it will mess up the consistency of the batter which could make the cake too dry or the batter too runny. I don't have the recipes in front of me right now, but like I say I will research it and let you know what I find.
By the way, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of helpful people here and a lot of great recipes you might want to check out. |

I've used applesauce in cake mixes before....I have a Duncan Hines cake mix sitting right here and here are the lower fat directions on the box.....
"Prepare and bake following the directions above, except using 1 c. water, 1/3 c. unsweetened applesauce and 3 eggs (I've used egg substitute before-the cake doesn't rise quite as high, but it takes the same). Reduce baking time 1-2 minutes. Hope this helps you out. |

I just use the pkg directions, and I don't omit any thing (oil) and add the 1/3 cup applesauce my family loves the moistness of my sheet cakes. http://www.duncanhines.com/forums/im...milies/eek.gif vickygee
