Simple Mornings is more like the original recipe that did not have whole grains that everyone loved. I made the same complaint over a year ago about their first remake of the muffins with whole grain, and agree with everybody that they were bad. They even smelled strange. Within the last two months they came out with Simple Mornings and they are delicious! I have always added extra ingredients that you might want to try. I add a tsp of vanilla to the water, two Tbsp of toasted wheat germ to the dry mix with 1/4 tsp each of cinnamon and nutmeg. Finally, I fold in a pint of fresh blueberries, along with the little ones enclosed. Now that is a good tasting blueberry muffin, and better for you than the original!

Plese bring back the Blueberry Bakery Style Muffin Mix. My kids are so dissappointed, I use to make a lemon blueberry loaf of bread using the Blueberry bakey mix. IT was awesome, Why did you all take it away. I always heard if it is not broke leave it alone. So please bring it back and I know you can. So come on. I thought i just couldn't buy it here in KY, Because they just did't carry it but wrong. It is not available any where. Bring it back.

I agree--whoever ok'd the whole grain muffin mix doesn't have tastebuds--it pretty much resembles ground cardboard. My family is still mourning the loss of the Blueberry Bakery style muffin mix. Duncan Hines--big mistake!

I have remained angry about the discontinuation of the ORIGINAL blueberry streusal muffin mix. My family seriously misses these muffins. I had hoped that I would find a way to purchase the Original mix online. They were a special treat that was always appreciated during special family gatherings. I'm not at all surprised to find that there are so many people that share my feelings concerning the original and new version.

Ok, ladies..after months of searching, I have FINALLY found another blueberry muffin mix to replace these. The Target brand, Market Pantry, has come out with their own version now & I've been making them ever since. They are absolutely delicious! They tasted just as good as Duncan Hines, maybe even better! No kidding! They don't come with a streusel topping but that's simple to make. Sometimes I'll just throw brown sugar on top if I'm short on time...AWESOME either way! Try them...trust me, you won't be disappointed! :)

I, too contacted DH this morning regarding these awful tasting muffins. Their response...long story short...thanks for your inquiry, ya da ya da ya...we will no longer carry them...and the kicker...the lady actually said & I quote...We've had mostly positive reviews on them. OMG, she can't be serious?! The reviews she's referring to must be the only 2 that are on this forum! It's like they don't even care! Everytime I go to Lowe's Foods or Food Lion, the shelf is overly stocked with them which proves people aren't buying them: certaintly not like before. Hopefully, they'll take the hint & bring back the old ones but I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with all of these posts! The Blueberry Streusel 100% Whole Grain muffin mix is, to put it bluntly, AWFUL! The muffins have an offensive odor and and unpleasant dense texture. Not to mention how bad the flavor is. Such a waste of money and ingredients.
I used to buy nothing but Duncan Hines, now the search is on for a palatable muffin I can serve to my family.
I'm unable to rate this muffin because there are no negative stars to click.

I hate feeling like a troll but I have to say that the new blueberry muffins are horrible. You've lost my business, that's for sure. Going whole grain is great, sure, but they ought to taste good. And they don't. They taste nothing like the original (which were amazing and superb) and my family wouldn't eat them due to the bizarre and alarming smell. We thought we had done something wrong to the recipe, it was that bad. Ugh.

Please, Duncan Hines, listen to your customers telling you how bad these are and do something about it. Pretty sure the original rating scale on these muffins would be low. Would Mr Hines like these? I highly doubt he'd recommend these things to his fellow traveling salesmen.

ORGINAL bakery style blueberry streusal muffin mix--bring it back please? I thought something was wrong when I mixed the new batter...it was watery...diff consistency from the ORIGINAL version that I liked. Needless to say, after taking the muffins out of the oven...I had to throw away the batch. Talk about wasting food :(. But no one would eat it. It taste weird, crumbly, odd textured. Please bring back the original one. It was better than gourmet store bought ready made ones!

Is there any other mix anyone would suggest? I'm at the point of trying to bake my own, but it's never as good as the mix... and the bakery style were just the best... sadness! Thanks for your tips!

I agree with everyone here, the new muffin recipe is awful! I bake with whole grains at home, and my muffins don't taste like this. The Duncan Hines ones didn't even rise correctly. I thought at first that it was something I'd done, but then it happened twice.

I went online and found people complaining everywhere, and so I decided to contact Duncan Hines through their website, my response:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Consumer Relations regarding DH Bakery Style Muffin Mix Blueberry Streusel. It gives us great pride to have the opportunity to interact with the individuals who use our products.

I regret having to disappoint you, but we are no longer manufacturing this product. It has been discontinued and our inventory has been depleted. We have no information available concerning the return of this product to our current product line.

I do hope that you will be able to find an alternate item within our product line that meets your needs."

No, I will not find an alternate item! If they had introduced these muffins in different packaging that made it clear they were no longer the delicious muffins of my childhood, I would be less annoyed. Judging from the number of comments here, it also does not seem that Duncan Hines wants "to interact with the individuals who use our products."

I agree with many of the posters re the Whole Grain Blueberry Muffins. I attempted to contact Duncan Hines several times when they first made the switch and they did not even have the courtesy to respond to my e mails. I used to make a coffee cake using the muffin mix as a base. EVERYONE loved it - requested - drooled over it. I tried it with the Whole Grain it was awful. With so many consumers missing it why are you not putting back on the shelves? I have stopped buying any Duncan Hines products since they found it so unimportant to respond to me!

Hi Ladies, I have found the answer....Krusteas makes the BEST muffins ever. I started with their cranberry-orange and used orange juice instead of water and sprinkle chopped nuts on top (sometimes add a few extra dried cranberries to make them fruitier. These are so delicious, my friends are totally fooled. They tell me they love to come to my house for coffee or tea because they know that everything will be home made. Fooled them with this.

The Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins (were) a tradition for us every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Morning plus birthdays and sleepovers. Please don't FORCE us to eat healthier. At least give us a choice. We will NEVER buy the 100% Whole Grain Blueberry Streusel muffins again. The original version froze well and traveled long distances well. I'm glad you and yours like them, but you can't compare oranges to apples. Presumptuously speaking for the loyal customer base that used the ORIGINAL mix, these muffins were generally used as a special treat that WERE shared with family and friends. Slightly healthier options for processed food products does not reflect a healthy lifestyle.

My oldest son was a huge fan of the Smurfs and for those of you who remember, the Smurfs ate morning muffins for breakfast. In 1986 When Matt was five he asked for morning muffins for Thanksgiving breakfast. i bought my first box of Duncan Hines Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins. Since that day these muffins have been a part of our Thanksgiving and Xmas mornings. Last year was the first time that we did not enjoy the muffins. My oldest and his four brothers could not have been more upset with the "new" muffin. This year they are already mourning the loss of a 24 year family tradition. The muffin mx may only be a product to DH, but to my family it is tied to many warm and wonderful memories. We will be looking to start a new family tradition this year that will not include any Duncan Hines products.

I'm saddened by, and very disappointed in, DH's unilateral decision to discontinue the original Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins. Like many of the posts, here, we tried the Whole Grain recipe - and found them to be completely unacceptable. The original bakery style muffins were my family's favorites. I used to buy all sorts of Duncan Hines products, but, I find no reason to be loyal to them, now, since they have been disloyal to their faithful consumers. Betty Crocker is calling my name, now...

Is there anyone out there listening to what the customers are saying. I thought that it was just our local stores that were not smart enough to know what muffin mix was the best, but I now know that it was the company that has lost their mind. Why can we not have choices. Healthy is great, but everything in moderation. When I see the word "New" on Duncan Hines products I run screaming from the store. I know if you tried to improve it, you screwed it up. We just stopped eating blueberry muffins. We had them every Sunday before church and they were awesome. Please bring back the original. You have definately confirmed and 'New and Improved" is not always better!!!!

FOR THE LOVE OF MUFFINS how on earth could a company change a product soo drasticly, totally ruin the product and compeletly ignore what seems to be the majority of their customers. I have bought most of the other flavors as well previously and it didn't matter which flavor you chose they were always amazingly great, better than fresh muffins at a bakery no less.

I must say it was the absolutely saddest day in my house when I made the last batch of the original recipie (I always had one unopened box and a one opened of the family/bulk size in the pantry till I could no longer buy them). My middle daughter who had been at grandparents for two days cried because there were not only no more muffins but no way to get them again. Seeing her dissapointment made me realize I could no longer be quiet about such a flat out ignorant choice to change the product without offering both options to customers. Sadly there are no great muffin mixes available anymore, nothing even close. Making things more healthy is great but so is moderation. I would much rather have them less often and taste great than spit out the nasty new product or never eat them at all. Of course I will not buy any of the new product again either.

I love the whole grain version. My favorite is to add a half cup of oats too, and then increase the water a little bit as needed. I also throw in a few teaspoons of ground flaxseed - I don't notice the taste but the health benefits of that are good.

Not sure why there are so many people on here complaining. We need more of America's food companies to start using whole grains and more nutritious ingredients, to begin to combat the obesity epidemic. Food should offer needed nutrients, not just be empty calories.

When the food police start telling you what you can eat and not eat, then you need to either be afraid - or speak your mind. I choose to speak my mind - and put my grocery dollars where my family will eat the food. We still have a box of the whole-grain blueberry muffin mix...been sitting here for months, and no one will even bother making it - it tastes that badly.

Duncan Hines has lost my business...and it appears (from reading the vast majority of posts on the internet) that I am not alone. The good news is that they didn't need my business enough to keep the former Blueberry mix as an option. Quite possibly, if enough people don't buy the new and improved whole-grain, they may not have to worry about having to bother making the whole-grain version.

I would love that they had whole grains if they tasted anywhere close to the same, but you must not know what they used to taste like. I make whole grain muffins from scratch which are delicious, but thats not why I choose the Duncan Hines muffins. When I want healthy food, I make it. When I have a craving for the muffins of my childhood, and it tastes totally different and worse, you get an emotional reaction (note all the comments here).

The whole grain is terrible. I accidentally bought the whole grain. Didn't realize until I poured the mix into the bowl, added the liquids and wondered why the batter was so dark. Then I looked at the box and realized I bought the wrong box. So I thought well okay, I'll try it. Took them out of the oven, put my "butter" on it and took a bite. YUCK. Spit it out and threw the rest away. Now I cant find the original mix anywhere. Landed on this website via Google and read all these comments. Duncan Hines you made a mistake, just like Coke. OH MY GOSH!! I am sooo glad I am not the only one who can't stand these whole grain muffins!! I used to bake these muffins for work all the time and EVERYBODY loved them. The whole grain muffins are horrible, but their is NO option of buying the original recipe (Other than lucking out and grabbing the last 2 boxes off my supermarket's shelf). The batter tastes disgusting--the original recipe batter was sooo yummy. Then after the muffins cook, they have the some strange after taste. I understand that people need to eat healthier--but it should be a choice. Besides who really thinks of eating a muffin of any type as healthy eating? The original bakery style muffins were one of my favorite indulgences--but the whole grain muffins have put me off Duncan Hines all together. I'm off to the kitchen to develop my own fluffy blueberry streusal muffin recipe that won't leave a bad taste in my mouth. If DH makes it back to the shelves with their previous recipe, I will gladly resume purchasing.

All of the other muffin mix comapnies should send Duncan Hines a bi THANK YOU for replacing the best mix out there with the WORST mix out there. I bet their sales will jump after everyone notices how bad these muffins are.

No sense in looking now since I have read on here that Duncan Hines discontinued them. My family tradition Christmas morning was making these muffins for my kids.....there goes tradition. I have always bought Duncan Hines products but if they don't intend on bringing back the Bakery Style Muffins, then I will start purchasing Betty Crocker instead. Duncan Hines needs to start listening to the consumers, that is the way a good business will sell it's products.

But these new whole grain ones, unfortunately, are horrible. They have an odd after taste that I just can't stomach.
