Recipe Description
When a recipe calls for shortening, do NOT use butter or margarine. If a recipe calls for butter, margarine may be used.

I substitue margarine for butter almost every time I bake without any problems. I have also melted margarine to use as a substitue for oil and everything came out fine. The only exception would be the Duncan Hines Butter Recipe cake. Butter has to be used for this mix.

Sorry but using margarine or shortening when butter is called for, can't be used makes
what your baking oily.
