The best tip that I have ever received from anyone was to freeze my cakes! If you frost them while they are frozen they are so moist and everyone will ask what your secret is... very sneaky but soooo easy. :)

when icing a cake be sure to do a dirty icing. What's a dirty icing? A dirty icing is a pre-layer of icing, to keep all of the cake crumbles in place. This is necessary because if you don't do a pre-layer, cake crumbles will be visible on the top layer of icing, making your cake look less appealing.
