Cakes, cookies, muffins, and other quick breads cook best in the middle of the oven. This allows the heat to circulate evenly for even cooking.

how much water ? is that the sam ethat the towels with water?attached aorund pan the cake?

I have always put my cake on the top rack center of oven, and placed a pan filled with water beneath it, and the cake comes out wonderful every time. so soft, fluffly and moist!
